Lael is a set designer for theater and opera based in Brooklyn, NY.  THEY ARE the recipient of a tony nomination, drama desk nomination and obie award for THEIR design for daniel fish’s revival of oklahoma! on broadway and at st. ann’s warehouse. THEY received a Lucille Lortel Award, Henry Hewes Design Award, and Drama Desk nomination for THEIR production of Adam Bock's A Life, as well as Lortel nominations for The NetherMary Jane, and rags parkland sings the songs of the future, and an Obie for Sustained Excellence in Design.  THEY HAVE designed on Broadway and worked extensively off-Broadway, at theaters such as Lincoln Center theater, New York Theatre Workshop, Second Stage, Signature Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, The Public Theater, and Playwrights Horizons. regionally THEY HAVE designed at oregon shakespeare festival, yale rep, and south coast rep, among others, and designed opera for Opera Theater of St. Louis, Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Philadelphia, and Atlanta Opera. 

Lael has had long term collaborations with directors lila neugebauer, anne kauffman, and daniel fish, and worked with devised companies the mad ones and the debate society.

THEY HOLD an MFA in Set Design from NYU and a BA in Mathematics from Brown University.
